Bangladesh’s experienced wicketkeeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim is included in the 21-member squad for the Bangladesh Tigers Program, scheduled to start on May 26.
The camp will see 21 players undergo rigorous training and strategic planning sessions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while the camp will be conducted in phases across multiple venues, including Sylhet and Chittagong.
The squad, picked by the National Selection Panel, comprises a blend of seasoned veterans and promising talents. The camp will serve as a vital platform for the players to fine-tune their techniques and mental fortitude ahead of the upcoming challenges.
“Saifuddin is included in Tigers program and there were instructions that six players should be training with white ball (to keep them prepared for the ICC T20 World Cup if there is any replacement required). Yesterday I received an email and Saifuddin called and for family reason… his wife is expecting and he will not be available for the camp till June 10 as he requested for leave. We are preparing Khaled at the moment,” Ashraf told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
BCB’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said six cricketers will train with white-ball in Tigers training camp as possible stand-by for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“We did not know about it (wife expecting child) earlier as he did not inform us anything about it like if anyone is injured or unavailable in that case we are informed beforehand. I believe if he had gone he would have fulfilled national duty and as this is secondary program (Tigers) so he requested for leave,” he said.
“We have chosen six players for white ball as standby of World Cup. We have chosen Anamul Haque while we have also picked Sohan (Nurul Hasan) since Jaker has a problem. We had kept Saifuddin and now there is Khaled while Saifuddin is expected to join in on June 10. There is Emon (Parvez Hossain), Nasum Ahmed and Mehedy Hasan. Last night Nasum gave us letter that he will not be available for first four to five days as he is suffering from jaundice,” he added.
