GT eliminated after washout in Ahmedabad

Rain put the final nail in the coffin for last year’s runner-up Gujarat Titans after their encounter against Kolkata Kight Riders was washed out. On the other hand, it gave joy to the Knight Riders who are now assured of a top-two finish, which carries the advantage of having an extra chance to reach the summit clash via playoffs.

KKR last finished in the top two 10 years back in 2014, when they also won the title.

This result also ensured that the clash between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants will now be a knockout game, with the loser being definitely eliminated. Both Gujarat and KKR can still influence the table with each having a game remaining. Gujarat will travel to Hyderabad to take on SRH, one of the contenders for a playoff spot, on May 16 while KKR go to Guwahati to take on Rajasthan Royals on May 19 which will be the final league game of the season.

A small downside of the washout for KKR would be that they would not have had game time in the same venue where they have now booked a playoff spot.
