T20 world champions India to meet PM Modi in New Delhi, then head to Mumbai for open bus parade

After delay due to Hurricane Beryl, Team India finally left from Barbados for India following their 2024 T20 World Cup win. On June 29, Rohit Sharma-led India defeated South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados to win their second T20 WC title, after 2007, and also broke their 11-year-long ICC title drought. After the emphatic win, Men in Blue were stranded in Barbados due to the hurricane but have now left for New Delhi in a chartered plane arranged by the BCCI. Upon arrival, on Thursday (July 4), the Rohit-led side have a busy schedule as they will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi before leaving for Mumbai for a bus parade.

As per a report in India Today, the T20 world champions have a hectic schedule on Thursday  after landing in New Delhi during the early hours.

Here’s the full schedule of Team India after arrival

1. India’s flight from Barbados lands at around 6 am on June 4
2. Team India to depart for PM Modi’s house at 9:30 am
3. After the meeting, they leave for Mumbai in a chartered flight
4. The team will take a drive from Mumbai airport to Wankhede Stadium
5. 1 km long bus parade is being arranged for the team enroute the Wankhede Stadium
6. A small presentation at the iconic stadium is to be held with the World Cup to be handed by Rohit to BCCI secretary Jay Shah
7. Post this, Indian players will disperse from Wankhede in the evening

Talking about the T20 WC final, India opted to bat first and rode on Virat Kohli’s 76, Axar Patel’s 47 and Shivam Dube’s 27 to post 176-7. In reply, the Aiden Markram-led Proteas looked on course for an easy win, courtesy of Heinrich Klaasen’s 52, before Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya’s brilliant death-over bowling tilted the game in India’s favour. Hardik ended with 3 for 20 whereas Bumrah and Arshdeep picked two wickets each.

India won the 20-nation event, held in West Indies and the USA, to become only the third team — after West Indies and England — with two T20 WCs. In addition, they became the first side to win the mega event without a loss.
